Unique Wedding Words

Bridaller

Bridaller means “a guest at a wedding.” The root word bridal originally meant “a wedding” or “a wedding feast”.  You may consider calling your distinguished wedding guests bridallers from now on.

Epithalamion [pronounced as ep-uh-thuh-ley-mee-on]

Epithalamion coined by Edmund Spenser, author of The Faerie Queene, means a poem or song written to celebrate a wedding. The word is based on the Greek word for “bridal chamber” and epi means “upon”
Paranymph [pronounced as par-uh-nimf]
Paranymph means bestman or bridesmaid and has unisex application. It translates from Greek paránymphos as “the person beside the bride.”
Agamy [pronounced as ag-uh-mee]
Agamy means status of unmarried or aversion to the instituition of marriage.
Shotgun Wedding
Shotgun Wedding is a wedding precipitated by pregnancy. The expression originated from the US and paints an image of a father forcing  the young man to marry his daughter by firearms.
Affiance [pronounced as uh-fahy-uhns]
Affiance means to pledge by promise of marriage.
Foy [pronouned as foi]
Bachelorette party by Americans is similar to Scottish term Foy, which means a farewell gift, feast or drink
Trousseau [pronounced as troo-soh]
Trousseau is an outfit of clothing or household linen for a bride. In the past, it refers to the items a bride collects to furnish the newlywed house. But nowadays, it refers to the robes a bride wears on her wedding night.
Dot
Dot means a woman’s dowry.
Deuterogamy [pronounced as doo-tuh-rog-uh-mee]
Deuterogamy means the second marriage.  Another word for this is isdigamy
